Well, POF has done it again, they’ve changed up their very simple and successful dating site system by removing the ability to see if someone’s read your messages unless you pay a small fee for it, literally pennies.

The benefits?

Well from a user perspective it’s simple: peace of mind. From a privacy issue, well the same thing: peace of mind and I think the privacy issue trumps everything because prior to this change a user could determine if someone had open their message thus putting pressure on the recipient to respond. That needed to change. Now a person can open a message from any member of their dating site knowing that their privacy hasn’t been violated, that they won’t receive a hate message asking them “why haven’t you responded?”.

From what I’ve gathered many single woman on free dating sites have to deal with angry messages all the time. Now the guy has to take a pill, chill and hope she responds. Why? Because if he over reacts and she truly hasn’t read the message yet, he’ll be out of luck and looking for a paddle.

So enjoy the new sent messaging system on POF and feel free to ignore that email from the guy with his shirt off!
